Coffee is all about relationships, and this year we’re excited to partner with a company doing great things in East Africa, Trabocca BV. Charles first worked with Trabocca during his time in Ethiopia, while at the non-profit, TechnoServe. Trabocca was an early supporter of the TechnoServe East Africa Coffee Initiative, a program that raised incomes for more than 100,000 coffee farmers across East Africa. Since then Trabocca has continued to invest in its Ethiopian value chain, and the Ethiopian Cup auction they host annually is a great example of the benefits that accrue to farmers who focus on quality.
Coffee from the Reko Washing Station in Kochere exemplifies what we look for in great Ethiopian Yirgs. The cup opens with bright notes of rainier cherry, transitions into a ripe red grape sweetness, and ends with a clean, buttery smooth finish.
